States around the world have favoured the creation of independent inspection agencies (SGS, Vinçotte, Bureau Veritas, ...) to control in an unbiased way the quality of the raw material and finished products transported from one country to another. In order to speed up the control process technologies such as PCR-based tests have been developed. This technology ensures that the actual control activities do not represent a hindrance to international exchanges.
Likewise state agencies for the food chain safety such as the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain, FASFC, in Belgium, are strongly advocating the development of quick quality, safety tests based for instance on PCR-technologies to be able to fulfil their mission of laying down, implementing and enforcing measures related to the analysis and the management of risks that may affect the health of consumers.
